Audi adds a sleek new four-seat coupe, positioned between the TT and the R8 supercar.
Overview
The all-new Audi A5 coupe debuted at the 2007 Geneva Motor Show alongside the high-performance S5 version, which was shown for the first time at the auto show in New York. The S5 was finished in bright Misano Red paint for the New York show which highlights the beautifully sculpted design. The A5 and S5 join the redesigned Audi TT coupe and the Audi R8 supercar as Audi offers a complete line of performance coupes.
An all-new four-seat coupe, the A5 incorporates many elements from the Nuvolari concept of 2003 for a combination of elegance and sportiness that Walter de’Silva, head of Volkswagen Group Design describes as “the most beautiful car I have ever designed.”
Design elements from the Nuvolari concept include Audi’s trademark trapezoidal grille framed by rectangular headlights, very thick C-pillar, frameless windows, and a waistline that flows upwards around the wheel arches to give the car a dynamic, sporty character.
In Europe, the A5 will be offered with engines that range from a 1.8-liter four cylinder to a 3.2-liter V6, as well as 2.7-liter and 3.0-liter diesels. A five-speed manual gearbox is standard with Audi’s multitronic automatic as an option. Audi has not announced engine details for the U.S., but the 3.2-liter V6 currently offered in the A6 would be a good bet.
Audi interiors have been widely praised for their design and elegance. While the interior of the A5 is practical for a coupe, it continues to build on Audi’s reputation as the benchmark in interior design. With a focus on ergonomic design and functionality combined with high-quality materials and excellent build quality, the A5 interior is focused on the driver, the instruments and the center console forms one unit.
Another example is the door panels where the controls, metal trim, leather trim, armrests and storage compartment all form a single unit. The instrument panel includes familiar Audi styling elements for the speedometer and tachometer but the details are a new design. The Audi Multimedia Interface screen is positioned high on the center stack to make it easy to read.
Technology includes partial LED lighting, an electromechanical parking brake, an all-plastic key and three-zone climate control.

This sporty concept is exactly what we've been waiting for from Mitsubishi: that is, Lancer Evolution performance and technology in an angularly (or is it angrily?) styled coupe. The Concept-RA "shows that thrilling performance and environmental responsibility need not be mutually exclusive concepts," according to Mitsubishi.
The Concept-RA blends a "next-generation" version of the Lancer Evolution X's Super-All Wheel Control (S-AWC) vehicle dynamics driveline — which includes Active Center Differential, Active Yaw Control and Active Stability Control — with Active Steering and Active Damping Control for the suspension. The Concept-RA also has the Lancer Evolution X's terrific new Twin Clutch Sportronic Shift Transmission, which allows either manual shifting via paddles or the use of a full automatic mode.
The car's environmental-ness comes from its new low-emissions 2.2-liter 16-valve turbodiesel 4-cylinder. This engine features direct injection and MIVEC (Mitsubishi Innovative Valve lift and timing Electronic Control) variable valve timing as well as a Variable Diffuser/Variable Geometry turbocharger, which help to achieve 204 bhp and 310 lb.-ft. of torque.
The concept uses an aluminum space frame for weight savings (aiding both handling and fuel economy), while the hood, fenders and other body panels are made from impact-resistant (and recyclable) plastic resin. Read More: Top Five Detroit Concepts

“Furai,” simply translated, means "sound of the wind" and is the fifth iteration or evolution of Mazda's new design language exemplified in its initial Nagare concept, which you may recall meant “flow.” Far from just a piece of artwork on wheels, this working concept actually began life as one of Mazda's 2006 season ALMS P2 race cars.
Built on a Courage C65 chassis and powered by a 450-bhp 3-rotor rotary engine, this ethanol (E100)-powered concept car is an exercise in reverse homologation: It represents an ideal within the Mazda philosophy, and that is to bridge the gap between single-purpose race cars (ALMS) and street-legal models (Ferrari Enzo, Lotus Elise), according to Mazda's Director of Design, Franz von Holzhausen.
The complex outer shell of the Furai clearly follows its predecessor's design trends, but through the guidance and expertise of Swift Engineering also functions aerodynamically. Front-fascia channels direct air to the brake ducts as strategically placed louvers on top of the front wheel fenders aid heat evacuation and help suck the front end closer to the ground. Its sculpted flanks create turbulence which draws air to the side ducts that help keep the engine cool in conjunction with the radiators mounted in the car's sidepods. Aft of the gullwing doors, flow-directing details continue to guide air over the car's rear haunches toward a large, functioning, adjustable-element spoiler. The sharp element you see protruding from the roof is called an Air Fang, and was designed by the guys at Swift to optimize ram air induction. The air split by the Air Fang creates vortices which force air down into the intake.

1. Ford Mustang
When the latest Mustang debuted in 2005, its flashback styling tapped into a deep well of American automotive lust. Its retro design—plainly displayed via round headlights, triangular windows, three-element taillights, and galloping-pony grille—only added appeal to one of the last affordable American sports cars. Three years later, enthusiasts are still loving the Mustang's power, styling and affordability.
2. Chevrolet Corvette
Long an American icon, the current Corvette is also a world class, high-performance sports car. For the 2008 model year, a new LS3 6.2-liter V8 gives the Corvette an extra 30 horsepower and 24 lb-ft of torque. With the new mill cranking out 430 horsepower and 424 lb-ft of torque, you might assume a car with so much power would provide dismal fuel economy. You can't expect the gas mileage of a Toyota Corolla, but the Corvette's every-day supercar status grows when you learn the EPA estimates for an '08 manual-tranny version are an impressive 16 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway.

3. Lamborghini Murcielago LP640
Whenever a machine as exotic as the Murcielago hits the road, it can't help but turn heads. The latest iteration of this exotic sports car—the 2007 LP640—only adds to the neck-snapping appeal. The restyled body features new bumpers front and back, larger air intakes, and rear lights designed with a single piece lens. Derived from the Italian for the engine's mounting position—longitudinale posteriore—the LP640 is powered by a 640-horsepower 6.5-liter V12. The V12's torque peak of 486 lb-ft (at 6000 rpm) is channeled through a new 6-speed transmission, stronger rear differential and permanent all-wheel drive.
4. Mitsubishi Eclipse
Perhaps hoping to get back in with the tuner crowd, Mitsubishi went back to the drawing board for the Eclipse, which was all-new in 2006. With styling reminiscent of the machinery in the film "The Fast and the Furious," the latest Eclipse provides voluptuous lines in a sleek and well-contented front-wheel-drive coupe. There is no turbo for the base 2.4-liter 162-horsepower 4-cylinder engine, but plenty of power is on tap for the boulevard in the Eclipse GT, which sports a 263-horsepower 3.8-liter V6.
5. Ford Shely GT500
The most muscular of Mustangs, the GT500 is motivated by a supercharged 500-horsepower V8, which shares components with the discontinued Ford GT. It is easily the lowest cost 500-horsepower car on the road today, with an MSRP just shy of $42,000. That kind of power will get you from 0 to 60 mph in 4.91 seconds, 0 to 100 mph in 10.3 seconds and delivers a quarter-mile time of 12.99 seconds at 117.70 mph. A member of the 500-horsepower club, the GT500 can be had as a coupe or a convertible.
6. Nissan 350Z
Since its introduction in 2003, the 350Z has been a hit with consumers. Available in coupe or a convertible, the Z is powered by a 3.5-liter 306-horsepower V6 that delivers 268 lb-ft of torque. For 2007 Nissan gave the 350Z the next-generation VQ35HR engine with a twin air intake system to reduce airflow resistance. Added for 2007 is the NISMO 350Z, which features a more aerodynamic look, a specially tuned suspension, Brembo brakes and lightweight forged-alloy wheels. NISMO is Nissan's performance products division.
7. Saturn Sky
Saturn may have been waiting a long time to hear this word, but the Sky is a sexy car. Often compared to its sibling, the Pontiac Solstice, the Sky's suspension is tuned differently to provide a more compliant ride. The base engine is a 2.4-liter 177-horsepower 4-cylinder, while the Sky Red Line's mill is a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder producing 260-horsepower. Starting price for a 2008 Sky is just under $25,000.
8. Porsche 911
The iconic rear-engine sports car, the 911 has managed to retain its trademark silhouette since its inception over 40 years ago. Curb weights have climbed with content over the years (currently 3,495 - 3,572 pounds), but so has engine output. The range-topping 911 Turbo cranks out 480 horsepower from its twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter flat-Six. With a nearly prescient all-wheel-drive system, the Turbo can lunge to 60 mph in just 3.7 seconds and hit 100 mph in 8.4 seconds using the standard 6-speed manual transmission. Opt for the 5-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission and acceleration times improve to 3.4 and 7.8 seconds.
9. Mazda MX-5 Miata
Introduced in the summer of 1989 as a 1990 model, the MX-5's quick steering, go-kart-like handling and sporty styling have helped the Miata land a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records as the best-selling two-seater sports car in the world. Following the trend of retractable hardtop convertibles such as the Volkswagen Eos and Pontiac G6, Mazda has added one to the MX-5 lineup. The retractable top adds only 75 pounds without reducing cargo room. Prices start under $21,000 for a 2008 Miata.
10. Lamborghini Gallardo
Another thrill machine from Lamborghini, the Gallardo is a two-seat mid-engine sports car equipped with a 520-horsepower 5.0-liter V10. For 2007, a lighter and more powerful Superleggera version has been added to the lineup. The Superleggera boasts extensive use of carbon fiber, bringing the sports car's weight to just under 3,000 pounds—making it more responsive and better suited for the track. With 522 horsepower on tap, the Superleggera boasts a 0-60 time of 3.5 seconds, and a 195 mph top speed.

Getting a makeover for the 2008 model year is the redesigned, fourth-generation C-Class. Engines are carryovers, but a new all-wheel-drive system will be available with an automatic transmission in the C300 Sport and C300 Luxury trims. The revised steering and suspension is tuned to make the C-Class more agile, in hopes of competing with the class-leading 3-Series. Prices for a 2008 C-Class starts at just over $31,000.

Cadillac's aging image began to change with the CTS debut in 2003, allowing it to woo many potential BMW 3-Series owners. The new entry-level Caddy includes more room, power and performance. Partly developed on Germany's famous Nurburgring race track, the CTS is offered with three suspension setups and all-wheel-drive is a $1,900 option.

Calling it no less than the reinvention of the Volkswagen, VW Chairman Martin Winterkorn introduced the up! Concept, a 4-passenger rear-engine hatchback with a flexible architecture that may be used for an entirely new family of vehicles.
This small city car is unmistakably a Volkswagen, with a basic shape and styling cues similar to those found in the larger Rabbit/Golf hatchbacks. The difference is that this vehicle has much shorter overhangs thanks to the positioning of the powerplant, which could be a conventional 2- or 3-cylinder engine or even a hybrid/fuel-cell unit, over the rear axle.
Even though the up! measures just 135.8 in. long and 64.2 in. wide, the cabin has a spacious feel thanks to thin-backed bucket seats that in all positions, except the driver’s, can be folded forward flat or removed all together. In addition, the seat cushions themselves are actually air mattresses that can be inflated or deflated to match the occupants comfort level.
Although the basic controls are simple, the center touch screen incorporates a proximity sensor similar to Apple’s iPhone, which allows for intuitive operation of complicated functions. While the up! is a concept, Winterkorn emphasized that VW is serious about building such an urban car and other variants as well, both for European and export market. In fact, one of the rumors circulating at the show was that development of the next-generation Beetle has been stopped to see if this new rear-engine platform can be adapted to that model.
